Working to improve the quality of livestock and the ability to care for them by the local Rwandan people.
The Udder Project is an agriculture project based in Rwanda. It is headed up by our board member, Dr. Rachael Spence DVM, a veterinarian from Edmonton, Alta. Every year she travels to Rwanda to assess the progress of her projects and plan for the future.
The project is important to the people of Kigeme for a number of reasons:
                - There is not a fully university trained and licensed veterinarian in the Kigeme area and, therefore, animal care is not at its' full potential.
                - Traditional cows are producing only 2 litres of mild/day. Canadian milking herd are producing upwards of 30-40 litres of milk/day.
                - At present local farmers have to travel long distances to purchase medications for their animals. Many do not have the capability to travel these distances and, therefore, their animals fail to receive the needed medical therapies.
