The Rift Valley

Today we got up early to head to Western Kenya, the area where Johnstone comes from! We drove 6 hours, at least one of which was just to get out of Nairobi! The scenery through the Rift Valley is absolutely stunning!! The Kenyan countryside is beautiful.

After a break for coffee and a bite to eat, as well as a stop with police that was rather interesting but delayed us at least an hour, we arrived in the town of Eldoret! This town's claim to fame is that it is the running capital of Kenya!! All the famous Kenyan runners are from here! We even ran into three young Americans here to run!!

We checked out the hotel where Rachael and I are going to stay at for the next couple of nights then headed out to Johnstone's family home! Johnstone's father took us around to meet three farmers. Rachael asked a lot of questions and learned about the care of cows here on Western Kenya! She also leaned about the crops grown in the area.

Tomorrow we hope to start the day with a run- rather fitting in this town! Then we are heading out to visit students that we have in a couple of the secondary schools in the area! That will be good to see them in their schools and to see what school life is for them here! And we may even get to see some more cows!!

Sounds fantastic-I would like to try a run there!!! Just letting you know Celine is in Kigali- we asked her to reach out to you. She is in school for another week & waiting for materials to be on the Rwandan National team. Maybe you can leave her stuff or meet her on your brief stay there. 😊 thanks!
